Harvey Elliott’s Aston Villa loan nears end, MLS move to Charlotte FC looms

Midfielder Harvey Elliott is set to leave Aston Villa for a potential move to MLS side Charlotte FC after being sidelined by Unai Emery and excluded from Liverpool’s future plans.

Harvey Elliott’s difficult loan spell at Aston Villa is nearing an end as the 22-year-old prepares to leave the club this winter.

Despite joining Villa with expectations of a permanent transfer, the midfielder has been frozen out by manager Unai Emery.

Because Elliott has already represented two European clubs this season—Liverpool and Villa—FIFA regulations prevent him from joining a third European side, making an overseas move his only viable option.

Major League Soccer’s Charlotte FC has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner for the England U21 star, having already secured his discovery rights.

The move would reunite Elliott with former Villa boss Dean Smith, who currently coaches the American side.

Emery recently acknowledged the need for a change, stating, “Hopefully we can get a solution for him to try to play consistently, to continue in his career with us or not.”

While Elliott reportedly prefers to remain in the Premier League, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has no immediate plans for his return.

Charlotte FC hopes to capitalize on this deadlock by offering the midfielder a high-profile platform ahead of this summer’s World Cup in the United States.

Emery clarified the player’s status regarding his current temporary stay, noting, “He is on loan here, but not definitely adding to us with a permanent contract.”
