Rasmus Hojlund is determined to fight for his place at Manchester United amid speculation about the club’s interest in signing another striker. Despite a challenging first season, Hojlund is ready to compete and improve.
Rasmus Hojlund has declared his determination to compete for his position at Manchester United in the face of ongoing speculation about his future with the club. Despite reports linking United with a new striker, Hojlund is ready to prove his worth.
Manchester United are reportedly seeking to bolster their attacking options during this transfer window, with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko a primary target. The club has also been linked with Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson, intensifying the competition for places in the forward line.
Hojlund responded to the speculation by scoring the opening goal in United's 4-1 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series on Wednesday, showcasing his potential to contribute to the team's success. Since joining Manchester United in August 2023, the 22-year-old has recorded 26 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions.
Last season, he scored 10 goals in 52 appearances, with four of those coming in the Premier League, highlighting his struggle to maintain consistent form despite having numerous shots. Manager Ruben Amorim expressed his satisfaction with Hojlund's performance against Bournemouth, and the Danish striker has a clear vision for his future.
"My plan is very clear: I want to stay and fight for my spot, no matter what happens," Hojlund stated. "Competition is a good thing; it sharpens me. I am more than ready and feeling sharp, so I welcome any challenges that come my way."
He added, "When I first arrived, Anthony Martial was also present, but he suffered a lot of injuries. As a result, I had to take on a significant portion of the game time. You won't hear me complain about wanting to play every game, but I could have used some help in sharing the workload, especially at the beginning."
Hojlund emphasized his youth, noting that he is still developing and learning. "People sometimes forget that I am only 22. Not every striker scores 100 goals by that age," he said. "I have learned a lot and believe it shows in my game. I am starting to develop and improve my fundamentals."
He concluded, "Last season was tough for all of us, and I know I should have performed better. However, it is also a team effort. We are going to improve, progress in the right direction, and look forward to the future."
