Morgan Gibbs-White said he “can finally breathe” under new manager Sean Dyche following Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 Europa League win over Porto after weeks of turmoil under Ange Postecoglou.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has expressed relief following Sean Dyche’s appointment as head coach, saying he can “finally breathe” after enduring a chaotic 39-day spell under former boss Ange Postecoglou.
Gibbs-White scored from the spot in Forest’s 2-0 victory over Porto on Thursday — Dyche’s first game in charge — ending an eight-match winless run that left the club struggling in Europe and the Premier League.
“I feel like I can finally breathe,” Gibbs-White told TNT Sports. “It’s been a difficult couple of months here with all the changes that have happened, the bad performances. So just happy to get our first win in nine games.”
He praised Dyche’s early influence, adding: “The gaffer came in and said we had a real identity last season, and he wants to bring that back. You can feel the morale — it’s a lot higher, a lot more energetic.”
Dyche replaced Postecoglou, who was sacked just 20 minutes after a 3-0 defeat by Chelsea. The Australian-Greek’s short stint marked one of the briefest Premier League tenures in history.
Forest, now seeking stability, face Bournemouth next as Dyche aims to steer them clear of the relegation zone.
