Pundit Ian Wright has labeled Ruben Amorim’s treatment of Kobbie Mainoo “embarrassing” following the midfielder’s resurgence under interim boss Michael Carrick.
Mainoo, who reportedly sought a January exit to Napoli after being sidelined by Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, has started every match of Carrick’s four-game winning streak.
The 20-year-old’s recent form, including two assists, has helped propel United into the Premier League’s top four.
Wright highlighted the stark contrast in United’s performances since Amorim’s January 5 dismissal, suggesting the former manager failed to utilize the club’s best academy talent.
Under Carrick’s 4-2-3-1, Mainoo has formed a solid partnership with Casemiro. “I think it’s very embarrassing for Ruben Amorim if we’re going to be totally honest,” Wright noted, emphasizing that the youngster was “very, very close to leaving the club.”
