MLS commissioner Don Garber has invited Liverpool star Mohamed Salah to consider joining Major League Soccer and consult with Lionel Messi before making a decision on his future, while acknowledging Salah is currently under contract.
MLS commissioner Don Garber has publicly encouraged Mohamed Salah to consider joining Major League Soccer if he decides to leave Liverpool in January.
Amid an ongoing fallout with manager Arne Slot, which saw Salah benched and left out of the Champions League squad, Garber suggested the star should emulate Lionel Messi’s successful move to the United States.
Garber stated, “I’d say he should reach out to Leo [Messi] and reach out to Thomas Muller and see how happy they’ve been and how successful they’ve been…”
He added that the league would “welcome him with open arms” if the Egyptian star decides to join. Despite strong links to the Saudi Pro League, Garber stressed respect for current contractual obligations.
On the feasibility of a winter transfer, the commissioner added: “We very much believe in the sanctity of a contract… Mo’s under contract to Liverpool, people, we know. It’s a great team.”
Salah is expected to join the Egyptian national team for AFCON shortly after a likely final appearance against Brighton this weekend, leaving his future at Anfield uncertain.
