On Match of the Day 2, Micah Richards argued, “He just loses balance, it’s as simple as that. It’s not a second yellow card.”
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe joined the chorus of disapproval, labeling the dismissal “really harsh” and insisting the midfielder was not seeking a foul.
Howe remarked, “I don’t think he’s looking for a penalty there.”
Despite the disadvantage, the Magpies triumphed through William Osula’s late winner, with Howe praising the squad’s resilience in what he described as an “amazing night” at St James’ Park.
