Pundit Jamie Redknapp and co-commentator Alan Smith have slammed VAR’s rapid dismissal of a penalty claim during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton, labeling the decision an “absolute disgrace.”
Jamie Redknapp voiced his fury after Arsenal were denied a first-half penalty during Saturday’s victory against Everton.
A collision between Michael Keane and Kai Havertz was dismissed by referee Andy Madley and a quick VAR check, despite replays showing contact.
“How on earth have VAR taken three seconds to say that’s not a penalty, I’ll never know,” Redknapp fumed. “That is a horrendous decision.”
The Premier League Match Centre defended the call, describing the contact as “minimal.”
However, Redknapp remained incensed by the speed of the review at Stockley Park. “It’s an absolute disgrace how that’s not been given or overturned,” he added.
While the injustice initially frustrated the leaders, late goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Max Dowman eventually secured the points for Mikel Arteta’s side.
