Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has launched a scathing attack on manager Arne Slot, claiming the team’s tactical retreat during their 2-0 defeat to PSG has rendered the club “unrecognisable.”
Jermaine Pennant slammed Arne Slot’s decision to adopt a defensive 3-5-2 formation during Wednesday’s Champions League loss in Paris.
The pundit argued the approach betrayed the aggressive identity established by Jurgen Klopp.
Taking to social media, Pennant expressed his disbelief at the performance, stating, “This is a disaster. Slot, you won the league last year with a style of play and DNA of Liverpool that Klopp built.”
The defeat has intensified pressure on the Liverpool hierarchy to reconsider Slot’s future following a string of poor results.
Pennant, a lifelong fan, suggested the current tactical direction is failing the supporters’ expectations for elite European competition.
Reflecting on the team’s loss of identity, he noted, “As someone who genuinely cares & watches every single game… This team is now close to unrecognisable.”
