Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia discussed his adaptation to the club, playing with Lionel Messi, manager Hansi Flick’s tactical demands including the high defensive line, and the competition for the starting spot, while also commenting on Lamine Yamal’s injury.
Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia spoke about his experiences at the club during an international break interview with the program Tu Dirás on RAC1, according to a report from Sempre Barca.
Garcia addressed the speculation surrounding Lionel Messi’s return, stating: “Because of the way he plays, Messi could keep playing for as long as he wants. I’d love for him to come and to be able to play with him, but I don’t know if that will be possible.”
The Spaniard also shed light on manager Hansi Flick’s tactical demands, particularly the high defensive line, noting the need for constant vigilance. “Above all, he asks me to stay alert to passes played in behind the defense,” Garcia said.
He acknowledged that the strategy carries risks but ultimately benefits the team: “It’s a risky strategy, that’s true. But if it’s done right and you work hard, it pays off.”
On his own position, Garcia confirmed he is working to displace Marc-André ter Stegen, stating, “Any one of the three can play… I will try to earn the starting spot and keep it until the end.” Garcia also expressed sympathy for Lamine Yamal’s groin injury, noting:
“It’s true that Lamine has progressed quite well, and we hope he continues to do so.” He admitted that winning the league title this year would be quite difficult.
