Joan Laporta calls Negreira case a ‘smear campaign’, slams Madrid and confirm Super League withdrawal

Barcelona President Joan Laporta passionately defended the club against the Negreira case, which he called “A smear campaign against Barça,” while simultaneously confirming the club’s withdrawal from the European Super League project.

According to a report from Barca Universal, FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta criticized the institutional relations between his club and Real Madrid, stating: “Real Madrid represents power, and Barça represents freedom.”

Laporta also confirmed that Barcelona has moved away from the Super League, stating, “Conflict certainly doesn’t benefit anyone,” and that they have improved relationships with UEFA and the ECA.

Laporta fiercely defended the club regarding the Negreira case, insisting:

“All of this has caused a delay in the judge’s decision. We were condemned before we were even tried. I am convinced that Barça will ultimately be acquitted.”

He also took a swipe at Real Madrid, claiming they have an interest “in keeping this alive,” because “They’ve tried to tarnish the best period in Barça’s history.”
