Jordan Pickford ranked fifth among England’s greatest goalkeepers by Cascarino

Tony Cascarino ranked Jordan Pickford fifth among England’s all-time goalkeepers, hailing his consistency and record-breaking form.

Former Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino has ranked Everton’s Jordan Pickford as the fifth greatest goalkeeper in England’s history, behind legends Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton, David Seaman, and Ray Clemence.

Pickford, England’s undisputed No. 1 since 2018, recently broke Gordon Banks’ record with eight consecutive clean sheets following a 3-0 win over Wales. The 30-year-old now has 79 international caps, only 21 away from joining England’s 100-cap club.

Cascarino told Weekend Sports Breakfast: “There isn’t even really a debate… Jordan’s as much the number one as Harry Kane.” He credited Pickford’s growth over time, saying, “In his early days, he looked a bit rash, but he’s eased back from that. The longer he’s been in the England shirt, the better he’s become.”

Cascarino’s all-time list placed Banks first, followed by Shilton, Seaman, Clemence, and Pickford. He added, “Pickford’s been outstanding from the Euros to the World Cups, and he doesn’t really have a number one contender to take his spot.”

England face Latvia on Tuesday, with Pickford expected to extend his cap tally as he chases Shilton’s long-standing record of 125 appearances.
