Vincent Kompany insists Bayern Munich cannot afford complacency despite their strong start, emphasizing the importance of a powerful finish to the Bundesliga season after a recent draw with Union Berlin.
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has warned his squad against complacency following a near-perfect start to the season, stressing that establishing a solid base is less important than finishing the campaign strongly.
According to a report from FotMob, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has insisted that the Bundesliga champions cannot afford to be complacent, despite their remarkable start to the 2025-26 campaign.
Bayern return to action following the final international break of the year on Saturday, hosting Freiburg at the Allianz Arena.
The team established a commanding position by winning their first 16 games across all competitions before drawing 2-2 with Union Berlin in their last match prior to the hiatus, meaning they do not have a perfect record.
Kompany stressed the importance of continuous improvement over celebrating early success, noting that their excellent start merely established a solid foundation.
He stated: “We’ve already drawn against Union this season. We didn’t win the last game, we haven’t forgotten that – it’s not been a perfect season.”
The coach emphasized that success is determined by the end of the season, not the beginning. “You always have to be strong at the end of the season – what you do at the beginning is a bonus. We want to be even stronger at the end.
Even if the performances are good now, it’s not an easy task, but we want to be even stronger at the end of the season than we are now.”
Bayern currently sit top of the Bundesliga table with 28 points from 10 matches. Opponents Freiburg are 10th in the table with 13 points from 10 games.
Kompany also provided an injury update, confirming that Joshua Kimmich should be available.
Meanwhile, Alphonso Davies, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament in March, is progressing, with Kompany hopeful of his return: “If he plays in one or two games this year, that would be great.”
Forward Luis Diaz is a player to watch for Bayern, having been directly involved in 10 goals (six goals, four assists) in his first 10 Bundesliga appearances.
