Jérôme Boateng’s potential coaching return to Bayern Munich, invited by Vincent Kompany, sparks fan outcry due to his domestic violence conviction.
The recently retired defender, who played for Bayern for a decade, stated, “I have already spoken with Kompany. I can do an internship at Bayern, and I am very happy about that. We just need to find the right time.”
However, the opposition stems from the former defender’s conviction last year for premeditated bodily harm against a former partner, which resulted in a suspended fine.
An online petition, “Setting borders against misogynistic violence: Jerome Boateng should not be allowed back to Bayern Munich,” has already gathered thousands of signatures, underscoring the fan displeasure.
Kompany, a former teammate, had previously opened the door, saying he would be happy for Boateng “to spend some weeks with us and share his experiences as a top defender.”
Bayern Munich has yet to comment publicly on the controversy surrounding the legendary player’s planned return.
