Kompany believes Kane’s presence elevates Nicolas Jackson’s game at Bayern Munich

Harry Kane’s late penalty earned Bayern Munich a disappointing 2-2 draw against bottom-placed Mainz, as coach Vincent Kompany praised the influence of the English striker on teammate Nicolas Jackson before the Senegalese forward’s AFCON departure.

Bayern Munich were held to an unexpected 2-2 draw at home by rock-bottom FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, forcing the league leaders to fight back from a deficit.

The Bavarians were rescued by an 87th-minute penalty from Harry Kane, his 17th league goal of the season, after the hosts surprisingly fell behind 2-1. Despite the dropped points, Vincent Kompany’s side still extended their lead at the top.

Lennart Karl opened the scoring for Bayern, but Mainz quickly leveled before taking a shocking lead in the second half. The home side was eventually awarded a penalty when Kacper Potulski was penalized for holding Kane.

Kompany utilized his bench, bringing on Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson for his final appearance before he departs for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Ahead of the match, coach Vincent Kompany praised Jackson, crediting his development to the influence of the team’s star striker.

Kompany stated: “We have an absolute leader in Harry [Kane],” adding that Jackson “keeps making progress because he trains with Harry.” The coach had earlier called the Chelsea loanee a “luxury” squad option.
