Gary Neville claimed that Liverpool’s big-money signing Alexander Isak is struggling to secure a starting spot because teammate Hugo Ekitike has been “very good,” having scored a brace in the recent 3-3 draw with Leeds.
Pundit Gary Neville commented on Liverpool’s striking options following the 3-3 draw with Leeds United, suggesting new signing Alexander Isak is facing an unexpected battle for minutes.
Despite Isak’s high-profile arrival, Neville noted that Hugo Ekitike’s impressive form, highlighted by his brace in the match, is creating an obstacle for the Swedish international.
Neville, speaking on Sky Sports, admitted he expected more from Isak initially: “I expected Isak to sort of slot in – excuse the pun – really well. It’s a bit of a mystery too much.”
However, he stressed Ekitike is the primary issue for Isak: “The biggest problem he’s got at the moment is there’s a kid that’s come in… that’s been very good and he can’t get in every week.”
