Lamine Yamal creates more UCL history in Barcelona’s last-gasp draw at Newcastle

Lamine Yamal set a new club record for the latest Champions League penalty goal to rescue a -1 draw for Barcelona against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

​Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against Newcastle United, netting a penalty at 95 minutes and 50 seconds.

The strike marked the latest penalty goal in Barcelona’s Champions League history. After Harvey Barnes gave the hosts a late lead, Yamal converted following a foul on Dani Olmo.

The 18-year-old now boasts 35 direct goal contributions across all competitions this season.

​Hansi Flick admitted his side struggled with possession but praised their defensive resilience ahead of the return leg.

Flick acknowledged, “We didn’t play well with the ball, we lost possession too often, which is what Newcastle want.”
