Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal has eclipsed Kylian Mbappe as the youngest player to reach eight Champions League goals following a stellar performance against Copenhagen.
Lamine Yamal continued his historic ascent on Wednesday, breaking another of Kylian Mbappe’s prestigious European records.
By scoring against Copenhagen at 18 years and 199 days old, the winger became the youngest player to reach eight goals in the Champions League.
His contribution was vital in securing Barcelona’s top-eight finish, further cementing his status as the cornerstone of Hansi Flick’s tactical system.
The Spanish international also equaled Mbappe’s record for scoring and assisting in three separate Champions League fixtures.
Reflecting on his scintillating form after the match, Yamal said he “feels freer and happier” in the Champions League.
With 13 goals and 13 assists already this season, the youngster’s record-breaking night ensured Barcelona bypassed the play-off round and marched straight into the last 16.
