Lautaro Martinez inspires Inter to Serie A summit with Genoa victory

Inter Milan defeated Genoa 2-1 with goals from Yann Bisseck and Lautaro Martinez, a result that sent the Nerazzurri to the top of the Serie A table after rivals Napoli and AC Milan dropped points.

Inter Milan claimed the top spot in the Serie A table with a crucial 2-1 victory over Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium. Goals from Yann Bisseck and Lautaro Martinez secured the win for the Nerazzurri.

The victory allowed Inter to leapfrog rivals Napoli, who lost 1-0, and AC Milan, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Sassuolo earlier in the day, ensuring they finished the weekend at the summit.

Inter opened the scoring when Lautaro Martinez kept the ball in play to assist Yann Bisseck’s low drive in the 6th minute.

Martinez then doubled the lead in the 38th minute, using his strength to turn a defender and smash an angled drive into the far corner.

The match was unfortunately marred by fan clashes outside the stadium an hour before kick-off, prompting police to deploy tear gas.

Genoa fought back in the second half, with Vitinha reducing the deficit in the 68th minute. The striker showed real skill, flicking the ball with his heel past two defenders before rounding the keeper to score.

Despite late pressure and tests for Yann Sommer, Inter held on to inflict Daniele De Rossi’s first defeat as Genoa coach, ending his run of two draws and two consecutive victories.
