Leicester City have fallen to 20th in the Championship after being docked six points for breaching financial rules by £20.8 million during the 2023/24 assessment period.
Leicester City have been handed an immediate six-point deduction after an independent commission found the club breached Profit and Sustainability Rules for the 2023/24 season.
The ruling, ratified by the EFL on Thursday, determined that the club exceeded permitted loss thresholds by £20.8 million over a three-year cycle.
This penalty drops the Foxes to 20th in the Championship, leaving them above the relegation zone only on goal difference.
The club expressed “disappointment” over the decision, labeling the sanction “disproportionate” despite the commission acknowledging some mitigating financial factors.
This case, which transferred to the Premier League’s jurisdiction following Leicester’s brief 2024 promotion, marks a significant blow to the team’s sporting ambitions.
With a hearing having concluded in November, the club is now reviewing the full written reasons before deciding whether to lodge a formal appeal.
