Liverpool could lose five straight away games to London clubs for the first time since 1970 when Arne Slot’s side travels to face Brentford in the Premier League.
Liverpool faces a crucial Premier League clash against Brentford on Saturday, not only to boost their league form but to avoid repeating a negative record untouched for 55 years.
SPORTS MOLE reports that the Reds are at “risk of repeating something unthinkable for the first time in 55 years – losing five away games in the Premier League against a London side.”
The Merseyside club has lost their last four away games against London sides, a run dating back to the end of last season. It includes defeats to Chelsea (3-1) and Brighton (3-2) towards the close of the campaign, followed by losses this season to Crystal Palace (2-1) and the Blues again (2-1).
The last time Liverpool suffered five consecutive league losses on the road against London opposition was in 1970, according to BBC Sport.
Manager Arne Slot desperately needs a victory, as the team has suffered three consecutive league defeats, including a “painful 2-1 loss against Manchester United at Anfield.”
Slot’s side recently ended a four-game losing streak in all competitions with a momentum-boosting 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek, an element the team will “be hoping to carry forward.”
The fixture presents a selection headache for Slot, particularly regarding star forward Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian was benched for the Frankfurt win and “has failed to score from open play in his last seven PL matches.”
Slot must decide whether to recall Salah or prefer Florian Wirtz, who delivered a “stellar performance” in midweek. Another key decision involves the left-back position, choosing between the returning Andy Robertson or Milos Kerkez to add “more energy and pace.”
The only positive omen for the Reds is their dominant head-to-head record against the Bees, having won their last five Premier League meetings, though the risk of losing three consecutive league games on the road is also present, a streak that last occurred in January-February 2023 and “included a 3-1 defeat at Brentford.”
