Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo in January, facing competition from Manchester City and Tottenham, with a £65 million release clause and a looming deadline.
Liverpool has emerged as a “serious potential suitor” for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo and is actively targeting him during the upcoming January transfer window.
According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, the club views Semenyo as a player who can make an “immediate, positive impact” and is specifically seeking a winger to enhance their offensive capabilities, particularly with Mohamed Salah expected to be absent for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Securing the transfer, however, is complicated by the player’s contract. Any interested club must activate a “specific and substantial release clause” in his deal, reportedly valued at a high figure of £65 million.
Furthermore, the contract stipulates that the clause “must be activated by a certain date this January” to ensure Bournemouth has “sufficient time to find a replacement player.”
Liverpool faces significant competition, as Premier League rivals Manchester City and Tottenham are also “keeping tabs on Semenyo.”
Recent reports suggest Manchester City is “currently debating over whether to trigger the clause this January or not as they look to beat Liverpool to the punch.”
Despite the intensifying speculation, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has remained dismissive, maintaining that Semenyo is “currently their player,” and stating he is “not worried about the market until January arrives.”
The pursuit of Semenyo is part of Liverpool’s wider January plan to strengthen key areas, including seeking a new centre-back and potentially another striker.
