Arne Slot’s Liverpool reportedly eyes Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry, whose contract expires this season, for a potential free transfer amidst competition from Juventus and Bayern’s offer of a reduced salary.
Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the situation of Germany international Serge Gnabry, whose future at Bayern Munich remains in doubt despite a remarkable stint with the club since his 2017 arrival.
The ex-Arsenal winger has turned out 298 times for the German champions across all competitions, finding the net 97 times.
According to a report from Sky in Germany, Arne Slot’s Liverpool are among the sides monitoring him and have already made preliminary enquiries.
The 30-year-old sees his current deal expire at the season’s end and would be eligible to negotiate with overseas clubs regarding a free transfer from January.
His availability without a transfer fee is appealing to the Reds, who are eager to secure a “budget-friendly addition to preserve resources for other squad areas,” viewing his “top-level pedigree” as an attractive factor.
Liverpool, however, face rivalry from Juventus. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have not abandoned hopes of retaining Gnabry, with discussions ongoing for a contract renewal, albeit only with a “reduced salary package.”
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany spoke highly of the attacker during the summer, saying: “Look, this a very underrated player.
There are outside opinions, but also our opinion and the opinions of his teammates. He’s an underrated player with very few weaknesses.” Kompany added:
“He’s still important… And he’s always been very important for Bayern during important games in the past. If one’s honest, there’s few highlight reels without goals and assists from Serge.”
