Steven Gerrard and manager Arne Slot have criticized referee Darren England for failing to dismiss Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh for an alleged dive during the Seagulls’ 2-1 victory over the Reds.
Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard joined Arne Slot in condemning the decision not to award Yankuba Minteh a second yellow card for simulation.
Minteh, already booked, went down in the box under pressure from Jeremie Frimpong, but no foul was given.
Gerrard told TNT Sports, “Well I think he’s extremely lucky. It is a dive in my opinion and he gets away with one here.”
The controversy intensified when Minteh later assisted Danny Welbeck’s winning goal, severely denting Liverpool’s top-four aspirations.
Former striker Peter Crouch echoed the frustration, agreeing that the winger was “looking for the penalty.”
Slot was seen visibly fuming on the touchline, later stating through his gestures that the lack of a red card fundamentally changed the momentum of the closely contested match.
