Liverpool to pay Chelsea up to £6.8m for Rio Nguyen following tribunal

A compensation tribunal has ruled that Liverpool must pay Chelsea an initial £2.8million for 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, with the total fee potentially rising to £6.8million.

A Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal has ordered Liverpool to pay Chelsea an initial £2.8million for winger Rio Ngumoha.

The 17-year-old joined Anfield in September 2024, but his age required a settled fee for training costs.

The total package could reach £6.8million based on senior appearances, international honors, and future milestones, while Chelsea also secured a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

Since his arrival, Ngumoha has impressed head coach Arne Slot, notably scoring a 100th-minute winner against Newcastle United on his Premier League debut.

The England youth international has made 13 appearances this season as the club manages his development.

“Ngumoha has plenty of promise – compensation fee could prove a bargain,” noted correspondent Andy Jones, highlighting the club’s belief in his high ceiling.
