According to Sport Witness reporting, former Liverpool winger Luis Díaz spoke with the club’s summer signing, Florian Wirtz, before completing his own move to Bayern Munich.
The Colombian international, who departed Anfield for the Bundesliga side, confirmed the conversation, which provided him with valuable insight into the German league.
The reports, relayed by the Bundesliga Español Instagram account, ESPN Colombia, and Semana, indicate that Díaz had reservations about leaving Liverpool due to concerns over the language, league, and country.
However, his interaction with Wirtz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in a £100m-plus deal, appeared to ease those worries.
Díaz trained briefly alongside the 22-year-old German star before his own departure last summer and revealed that Wirtz spoke positively about his home country’s top flight.
Díaz said: “He told me that the league is very intense and that there are great teams. The stadiums are always full. He told me I was going to enjoy it a lot and that I was going to do very well, so I thanked him.”
Semana suggests that Wirtz’s positive appraisal may have played a significant role in Díaz’s decision to commit to the move to Germany.
Since arriving at Bayern Munich, Díaz has made a strong start, registering seven goals and four assists in 13 matches. In contrast, Wirtz has recorded three assists but is yet to score for Liverpool across the same number of appearances.
