Luis Enrique sends message to Thomas Frank and Spurs ahead of UCL clash

PSG’s Luis Enrique warns Tottenham that his team aims to dominate their Champions League clash, regardless of Spurs’ tactical approach. He respects their quality but notes their recent vulnerabilities.

According to a report from To The Lane And Back by Shehryar Edibam, Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has delivered a psychological blow to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of their crucial Champions League encounter, suggesting his side’s intent to control the game will supersede Thomas Frank’s tactical choices.

The warning follows Tottenham’s recent 4-1 defeat to Arsenal, a “derby humiliation” where Frank’s system changes proved ineffective.

Enrique referenced the tactical uncertainty surrounding Spurs, who utilized a five-man defence against Arsenal, after also using it in the Super Cup final in August.

During his pre-match press conference, Enrique showed little concern over Spurs’ starting XI, stating:

“They changed, their first match against us in the Super Cup final they played with five at the back, last weekend against Arsenal they repeated that but it didn’t work the way they wanted. We are ready to play against Tottenham in the normal way, with four at the back or with five.”

Enrique insisted that PSG are focused purely on their own game plan. “I think it’s not going to change a lot because we can see their idea, for us, we need to dominate the game, we need to keep the ball, we need to play with the ball and that’s our goal for this match.”

Despite his confidence, the Spanish coach showed respect for Tottenham’s quality, recalling their previous meeting in the Super Cup:

“If we analyse Spurs individually, most of their players are senior internationals and they are a strong team.”

The first 60 minutes of that Super Cup clash were “very tough” for PSG, before they eventually won on penalties after coming back from 2-0 down. PSG will now look to exploit the “fragility” exposed by Arsenal.
