UEFA hands Maccabi Tel Aviv suspended away fan ban

UEFA has imposed a 20,000 euro fine and a two-year suspended away fan ban on Maccabi Tel Aviv following discriminatory behavior by supporters during their Europa League match against Stuttgart.

UEFA has issued a suspended one-match away fan ban to Maccabi Tel Aviv following “racist and/or discriminatory behaviour” during a Europa League fixture against Stuttgart.

The Israeli club was also fined 20,000 euros (£17,550) for the conduct of its supporters during the match on 11 December.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) confirmed the ticket sales ban will be “suspended for a probationary period of two years,” pending any further incidents.

The disciplinary action follows a 4-1 defeat in Germany, leaving Maccabi with just one point in the Europa League phase.

The club’s supporters have faced significant travel hurdles this season; fans were previously barred from a November clash against Aston Villa due to local safety concerns.

That specific restriction drew political scrutiny, with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer calling the decision “wrong” and asserting that “we will not tolerate antisemitism on our streets.”

Ongoing investigations into the Villa match ban have reached the UK Parliament, where West Midlands Police gave evidence to the Home Affairs Committee.

Committee chair Karen Bradley is seeking further clarity from Birmingham City Council regarding the decision-making process that excluded Maccabi fans.

Despite these domestic controversies, the latest UEFA ruling focuses strictly on supporter conduct in Stuttgart, placing the club on notice for future European away fixtures during the probation period.
