AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has voiced his frustration over the decision to stage the Serie A clash between Milan and Como in Australia, suggesting that commercial motives have overshadowed the spirit of competition.
Speaking at a press conference, Maignan echoed Adrien Rabiot’s earlier criticism of the move. “I absolutely agree with Rabiot. I don’t understand why we’re playing abroad … today many things are forgotten, people only think about the financial side,” he said, via Corriere dello Sport.
The French international lamented the loss of home advantage, adding, “This is an Italian league match, we should have played at home — we ‘lose’ a home game.”
While Maignan’s tone was measured, his comments reflect growing unrest among players regarding Serie A’s push for overseas fixtures. The move has sparked debate over the balance between tradition and revenue, with fans and players questioning the league’s priorities.
