Nick Woltemade’s banter follows Malick Thiaw’s record double

Malick Thiaw netted his first two goals for Newcastle United, including the season’s fastest Premier League goal, as the Magpies secured a dominant 4-1 away victory over Everton with additional strikes from Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade.

According to a report from the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United clinched their first league away win of the season with a commanding 4-1 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The win was deemed a “perfect response” to their midweek defeat against Marseille, as the four goals scored “more than doubled their whole goals tally on the road for the season within an hour.”

The result was bookended by two headers from Malick Thiaw, who scored his first and second goals for the club.

Thiaw’s first strike, which came “inside 60 seconds,” was confirmed as the fastest goal of the Premier League season, beating the record set by Phil Foden just “over two hours” earlier.

The German defender’s brace made him the first Newcastle player to score two headers in the same Premier League match since Georginio Wijnaldum against Norwich City in October 2015.

The other goals came from Lewis Miley and Thiaw’s fellow countryman, Nick Woltemade, who later poked fun at his defensive colleague’s heading prowess.

Woltemade told Sky Sports: “Unbelievable player. We’re always making jokes that he can’t head [the ball] and today he did two headers! Yesterday he wanted to train his headers, but the rain was so we couldn’t train but I don’t think he needs to anymore.”

Thiaw responded in jest: “He told me how to head the ball.” Woltemade continued, “I showed him. I showed him because in the last game he was not doing well with his head but now he did really well and he deserves this [player of the match].”

Thiaw, who arrived from AC Milan in the summer, later added: “I’m grateful, it is an incredible moment for me. The Newcastle fans have welcomed me like it is my new home so I am really grateful.”
