Manchester City is planning a major move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson in 2026, facing competition from Liverpool and Manchester United for the rising England star valued potentially near £100 million.
According to a report from EPL Index, credit goes to The Daily Mail for outlining that Manchester City is already “sketching out plans for 2026” to secure the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
City’s “growing fascination” with the 23-year-old signals a potential change in the Premier League landscape.
Anderson’s rise at Forest has been characterized by his “ability to command games with poise and tempo,” and his performances have “not only stabilised their midfield but elevated their overall structure.”
The report states that City’s interest is “firm,” with scouts having been present at recent Forest fixtures. Both Pep Guardiola and football director Hugo Viana “admire his blend of athleticism and tactical maturity.”
While Forest are “expected to resist offers in January,” there is an acknowledgement that a sale before the 2026 World Cup will be difficult to refuse if bids “approach £100 million.” Rivals believe a fee “in excess of £80 million will be required.”
One source is quoted as saying Anderson, who will “likely be an England regular for several years is too good to pass by.”
Anderson’s versatility is a key tactical fit, as his “flexibility as a No.6 or No.8 provides something different” to City’s current options.
The player’s value has been accelerated by his “England progression,” having collected six caps this season. Furthermore, England boss Thomas Tuchel provided a strong endorsement, stating:
“Anderson is a key player for us at the moment. He is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, that is why he is with us and starting for us.”
