Manchester United has officially announced the acquisition of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal estimated to reach £74 million (€85.4 million). The Slovenian forward, who was also on the radar of Arsenal and Newcastle United, has committed to a five-year contract with Ruben Amorim's squad.
Sesko's arrival is expected to significantly boost United's attacking options, complementing recent additions like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
"Manchester United's history is incredibly special, but what truly excites me is the future," Sesko stated upon his arrival, pending international clearance. "After discussing the project, it became clear that this team has everything in place to grow and compete for major trophies. From the moment I arrived, I felt the positive energy and family environment. This is the perfect place to maximize my potential and achieve my ambitions. I'm eager to learn from Ruben [Amorim] and connect with my teammates to achieve success together."
The 22-year-old showcased his talent with 21 goals and six assists for Leipzig last season. Sesko also holds the distinction of being the youngest player to score at least 20 goals across all competitions in Europe's top five leagues during the previous season.
Jason Wilcox, Manchester United's director of football, commented, "Benjamin combines electrifying pace with the ability to dominate defenders physically, making him an exceptional young talent. Our data analysis and research confirmed that he possesses the qualities and personality to thrive at Manchester United. Under Ruben's guidance, Benjamin is in the perfect environment to reach his world-class potential."
Sesko is set to be formally introduced to United fans before their final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday.
