Player Ratings: Bruno, Mbeumo, Maguire, and Martinez all got 8/10s as United humble City in the derby

In a stunning display of tactical discipline and clinical finishing, Manchester United secured a massive 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

In what was Michael Carrick’s first game since taking the helm, the Red Devils overcame early nerves and a controversial non-red card for Diogo Dalot to dismantle their cross-town rivals.

The match remained deadlocked at the interval, but United’s persistence paid off in the second half.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring with a composed finish in the 65th minute, before Patrick Dorgu sealed the three points with a moment of magic just 11 minutes later.

Here are the player ratings for United’s heroic performance:

Senne Lammens – 6

It was a surprisingly quiet afternoon for the young Belgian shot-stopper. While many expected him to be under a constant barrage from City’s elite frontline, he was protected well by his defense and dealt comfortably with the few long-range efforts that came his way.

Diogo Dalot – 5

The full-back was incredibly lucky to stay on the pitch after a reckless, studs-up challenge on Jeremy Doku. VAR’s decision not to intervene was a massive reprieve for Dalot, who struggled to impact the game positively and looked vulnerable throughout his time on the pitch.

Harry Maguire – 8

Returning to the heart of the defense, Maguire was a mountain. He completely neutralized the threat of Erling Haaland, winning nearly every aerial duel and commanding his box with authority. If this is indeed his final chapter at United, this performance will be remembered as a vintage display.

Lisandro Martinez – 8

The “Butcher” was back to his best, providing the perfect aggressive foil to Maguire. His reading of the game was impeccable, and his ability to step out and intercept passes frustrated City’s midfielders. He proved once again why he is indispensable to this backline.

Luke Shaw – 6

It was a tale of two halves for Shaw. He started the game nervously, picking up a cheap yellow card and looking a step behind the pace. However, he matured as the game progressed, eventually settling into a rhythm and helping maintain the clean sheet.

Casemiro – 7

The veteran Brazilian provided the necessary grit in the engine room. He patrolled the area in front of the back four effectively and was instrumental in breaking up City’s rhythm during their rare spells of sustained possession.

Kobbie Mainoo – 7

In his first Premier League start of the campaign, the academy graduate showed exactly why the Old Trafford faithful adore him. He played with a maturity beyond his years, covering vast amounts of ground and showing great composure under the heavy City press.

Bruno Fernandes – 8

The captain led by example, acting as the primary creative hub for United’s counter-attacks. His vision was on full display when he threaded the needle for the opening goal, and he remained a constant thorn in the side of Pep Guardiola’s defense.

Amad – 7

Fresh from his return from international duty, Amad’s directness caused plenty of problems. While he didn’t get on the scoresheet, his movement off the ball dragged defenders out of position and created the space that his teammates eventually exploited.

Patrick Dorgu – 9

The undisputed star of the show. Many were surprised to see him in the starting lineup, but Dorgu justified Carrick’s faith with an incredible individual performance. Playing high up the pitch, he was a constant threat and capped his day with a brilliantly taken goal to double the lead.

Bryan Mbeumo – 8

United’s most dangerous attacking outlet. He led the line with intelligence and pace, and after seeing an earlier effort saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, he made no mistake when played through in the 65th minute, sparking wild celebrations in the Stretford End.
