Manchester United Women have officially announced the acquisition of Swedish midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme from Bayern Munich. The talented player has inked a two-year contract with the Red Devils, which includes an option for an additional year.
Zigiotti Olme's move to Manchester United comes after a brief but successful stint with Bayern Munich, where she contributed to the team's triumphs in both the Frauen-Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal during the previous season. Prior to her time in Germany, the 27-year-old midfielder showcased her skills in the English Women's Super League with Brighton, where she spent two years honing her craft.
Internationally, Zigiotti Olme has been a key figure for the Swedish national team. She participated in all four of Sweden's matches during the Euro 2025 tournament, displaying her versatility and commitment on the field. Notably, she provided an assist and scored in the penalty shoot-out during their quarter-final encounter against England, despite the eventual defeat.
Expressing her enthusiasm about joining Manchester United, Zigiotti Olme stated on the club's website: "I am so happy to be here and so happy to get started and to join this family." She further added, "I have been watching Manchester United in the last couple of years and, having seen what they have been doing, I am very impressed."
The midfielder emphasized the team's suitability for her playing style and the warm welcome she received from her new teammates. "They are a team that fits me and my style. Meeting the players has been great. They were like a family, and it was a fantastic way to start."
As Manchester United Women gear up for the upcoming season, their Women's Super League campaign is set to commence against Leicester City on September 7. With the addition of Julia Zigiotti Olme, the team aims to strengthen their midfield and compete for top honors in the league.
