Inter and AC Milan celebrate “historic moment” as joint stadium owners

Inter and AC Milan presidents Beppe Marotta and Paolo Scaroni celebrated their first Derby della Madonnina in a jointly-owned stadium, heralding a new era for Milanese football infrastructure.

The Derby della Madonnina between Inter and AC Milan holds special significance this weekend, marking the first time the historic rivalry is played at a stadium now owned jointly by the two clubs.

According to a report from Football Italia, Inter President Beppe Marotta and AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni held a joint interview to celebrate the moment, which comes weeks after the clubs finalized the purchase of the land surrounding the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The current stadium is slated to be eventually demolished to make way for a new, modern structure.

Marotta underscored the magnitude of the achievement, stating: “It is an historic moment and a date that will remain in the history books for all of Italian football, as it is the first time two clubs have come together to take such a big step.”

He added that while there must be respect for the current “structural icon,” the goal is to build “a new container that can be the scene for many more wonderful moments.”

Scaroni confirmed that the joint acquisition project had been “over a decade in the making,” noting, “We have been sharing the stadium for many years, it’s just that now we are the owners.” He echoed Marotta’s sentiment regarding the future:

“Now we need the new stadium to be just as iconic as the one the two clubs had so much success in over all these years.”

The derby itself is a battle at the top of the table, with only two points separating the rivals.
