Massive brawl erupts in bar after a tense Tyne-Wear derby

A mass brawl involving approximately 15 people broke out in a bar following Sunderland’s 1-0 victory over rivals Newcastle in the first Premier League Tyne-Wear derby in almost a decade.

Shocking footage has surfaced of a mass brawl that erupted inside a packed bar following Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby, where Sunderland defeated rivals Newcastle 1-0.

The violence began shortly after the final whistle, with chairs and a table hurled between approximately 15 people. The chaotic scene was accompanied by “screams of women and children” audible in the viral video.

The derby, the first Premier League clash between the rivals in nearly a decade, saw an own goal secure the points for the home side.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris praised his team’s performance after extending their unbeaten run against Newcastle:

“Proud and happy. It was a derby and we were expected [to win] by our fans. This win is well deserved, we were mature and the lads were incredible.”

Conversely, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was left apologising for his team’s showing following the disappointing loss.

Howe stated: “It’s a horrible feeling, it’s very painful. It was not our finest game.” He added, “we know our performance was not what it needed to be.”

Mirror Football has since contacted Northumbria Police for comment on the incident.
