  • FIFA cancels thousands of hotel bookings for 2026 World Cup host cities

FIFA has released thousands of overbooked hotel rooms back into the public market across North American host cities, a move the governing body describes as standard operational procedure just months before the 2026 World Cup kicks off. FIFA has cancelled over 2,000 hotel reservations in Philadelphia and 800 in Mexico City as tournament preparations enter their final phase. The governing body confirmed that all 16 host cities are affected by the release of rooms initially held for technical staff and officials. Philadelphia Hotel Association President Ed Grose noted, “These are rooms that are going to be put back out on the marketplace.” The logistical shift comes amid broader challenges, including stadium branding disputes in Atlanta and potential security delays. FIFA maintains that overbooking is typical practice to guarantee operations before numbers are finalized. Alberto Albarran Leyva of Mexico City’s Hotel Association clarified the cancellations, stating FIFA realized it “was no longer going to use them” and that “there is no other reason or context.”

  • World Cup 2026: Why North America’s tournament fails to spark excitement

With 90 days until the 2026 World Cup kicks off, rising geopolitical instability in the United States and Mexico, alongside record-high ticket prices, has sparked widespread concern over the tournament’s safety and integrity.

The countdown to the 2026 World Cup in North America has been overshadowed by significant political and security crises.

Unrest in the United States involving federal agencies and recent civilian deaths have created a “chilly” atmosphere for fans.

Adding to the tension, U.S. airstrikes in the Middle East have reportedly forced the Iranian federation to consider withdrawing from the tournament in protest of current American foreign policy.

In co-host nation Mexico, a multi-faceted security crisis has intensified following the death of a major cartel leader.

Widespread attacks on businesses and vehicles across several states have raised alarms for the safety of traveling supporters.

Meanwhile, FIFA’s decision to award a “Peace Prize” to the U.S. President during the official draw has drawn accusations of sportswashing and over-commercialization from international critics.

Despite the return of Scotland to the world stage after a 28-year absence, many fans feel disenfranchised by wildly inflated costs and travel bans affecting several qualified nations.

While USA ’94 is remembered as a celebratory milestone for “soccer,” experts fear the 2026 edition may be defined more by political division than sporting achievement.

The tournament is set to conclude on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

  • Man Utd issue instant response to sensational Jurgen Klopp approach claims

Manchester United has strongly denied claims from Jürgen Klopp’s agent that they attempted to hire the former Liverpool boss, maintaining that no official or informal contact ever took place.

Manchester United has officially denied making any approach for Jürgen Klopp following his departure from Liverpool in 2024.

The club’s rebuttal follows a “bombshell” interview with Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, who claimed that United and Chelsea were among the Premier League giants that inquired about the German’s availability.

United sources, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, firmly dismissed the suggestion, insisting no contact was made with Klopp or his representatives.

The denial comes at a sensitive time for the Red Devils as they continue to navigate their long-term managerial strategy under INEOS.

While Kosicke told Transfermarkt that “even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired,” United have moved swiftly to clarify that Klopp was never on their shortlist.

The club’s stance reinforces Klopp’s own public pledge to never manage another English team, a commitment his agent acknowledged by adding, “Jürgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England.”

  • Agent reveals Man United and Chelsea made approach for German boss

Marc Kosicke claims Manchester United and Chelsea approached Jürgen Klopp after he left Liverpool, though the German remains committed to his executive role at Red Bull.

Jürgen Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, has claimed that Manchester United and Chelsea both reached out to the former Liverpool manager following his emotional exit from Anfield.

In an interview with Transfermarkt, Kosicke revealed that despite Klopp’s firm vow never to manage another English club, the Premier League giants made informal inquiries. Both clubs have since denied these claims, according to reports from the Press Association.

The 58-year-old German is currently serving as the Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull, a strategic role he began in January 2025.

Kosicke also noted that Klopp turned down opportunities to lead the national teams of England and the United States before taking the executive position.

Reflecting on his client’s current status, Kosicke stated: “Maybe at some point he’ll say he needs to smell the locker room again. But at the moment he’s very, very happy in his role.”
