Victor Pereira leads Nottingham Forest to dominant victory in Istanbul
New manager Vítor Pereira enjoyed a perfect debut as Nottingham Forest secured a commanding 3-0 away win against Fenerbahçe in the Europa League playoff first leg.
Forest took control through goals from Murillo, Igor Jesus, and captain Morgan Gibbs-White, placing them firmly in the driver’s seat for the return leg.
Pereira, the club’s fourth coach this season, replaced Sean Dyche only days ago.
The victory provides a massive boost for the Premier League side, who currently sit 17th domestically and face a daunting clash against Liverpool this Sunday.
Elsewhere in European action, Genk secured a 3-1 victory in Zagreb, while Bologna edged out Brann 1-0 thanks to a Santiago Castro winner.
Premier League counterparts Crystal Palace struggled, managing only a 1-1 draw against Bosnian champions Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League.
These two-leg playoffs determine which sides will join the top eight teams in the prestigious round of 16 next month.

Daniel Munoz dreams of Manchester United move
Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz has expressed his ‘dream’ of playing for clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona, or Real Madrid someday, despite his current focus on Crystal Palace and national team duties.
Daniel Muñoz has publicly disclosed his ambition to join one of Europe’s major clubs, naming Manchester United as one of his “dream” destinations, despite being happy and focused on his current club.
Crystal Palace wing-back Daniel Muñoz has put Europe’s biggest clubs on alert after admitting that a move to Manchester United would be a “dream” transfer, according to a report from Football365.
The 29-year-old Colombian international, who joined the Eagles from Genk in January 2024, has rapidly established himself as one of the Premier League’s top right-backs.
Muñoz signed a contract extension until June 2028, but his recent comments suggest his long-term future may lie away from Selhurst Park.
Muñoz explicitly stated his career ambitions in an interview with AS Colombia. When asked about interest from top clubs, the defender replied:
“First of all, I think there’s a lot of talk about one club or another. If you ask me, it would be a dream to play for one of these clubs, whether it’s Barcelona, PSG, Real Madrid, or Manchester United.”
The wing-back was quick to reassure Palace fans of his commitment, adding: “My focus is on Crystal Palace. We’ll see when the winter transfer window gets closer.”
Muñoz is said to be valued at a minimum of €30 million (£26.4m) by the club. Despite the player’s clear desire for a big move, some reports suggest a transfer to the likes of Manchester United or Real Madrid is unlikely due to his age.
Regardless, Muñoz insisted that he is “working towards that”, striving every day to “attract the attention of one of these clubs” after a stellar period that has seen him score eight goals and provide 14 assists in 81 appearances for Palace.

Rangers target Sadick as Knutsen leads Celtic race
Saturday’s gossip sees Rangers targeting Mujaid Sadick, which could impact Nasser Djiga’s loan, while Kjetil Knutsen has become the new favourite for the Celtic manager’s job.
1. Match Summary
SC Freiburg convincingly defeated Genk with a final score of 5-1. The match saw Freiburg dominate after an early lead, with a brace from Igor Matanović and goals from Matthias Ginter, Vincenzo Grifo, and Maximilian Eggestein. Genk managed a single goal through Matte Smets, but were ultimately outplayed. Key moments included Freiburg's quickfire goals in the first half and their continued pressure throughout the second, leading to a comfortable victory.
2. Team Performance Analysis
SC Freiburg: Freiburg demonstrated a clinical edge in front of goal, converting a higher percentage of their chances despite having a similar number of total shots as Genk. Their passing accuracy of 82% indicates a solid control of possession, although Genk slightly edged them in overall ball possession (53% vs 47%). The five yellow cards suggest a degree of tactical fouling or aggressive challenges. Their xG of 1.62 aligns with the number of goals scored, suggesting they were creating good quality opportunities. The negative goals prevented value indicates they were fortunate to concede only one goal.
Genk: Genk, despite having more total shots and better passing accuracy (87%), lacked the finishing touch to capitalize on their opportunities. Their higher number of shots off target (5) and blocked shots (5) suggests they were often forced into less favorable shooting positions. The two yellow cards and a higher foul count indicate a more reactive and potentially frustrated approach to the game. Their xG of 1.07 suggests they created fewer high-quality chances than Freiburg. The negative goals prevented value indicates they were unfortunate to concede so many goals.
