Ryan Babel’s late goal handed Liverpool Legends a 1-0 victory over Chelsea Legends in a nostalgic and charity-driven encounter at Stamford Bridge.
Ryan Babel’s late strike sealed a 1-0 win for Liverpool Legends over Chelsea Legends in a thrilling charity match at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea fans warmly welcomed back club icons including Eden Hazard, John Terry, Petr Cech, and Claude Makelele in a game that blended nostalgia with entertainment. The afternoon began with tributes to former players and supporters who passed away earlier this year before both sides put on a spirited display.
Hazard dazzled on his return, while Diego Costa’s fiery competitiveness drew laughter and cheers from the crowd. Despite Chelsea dominating possession, Liverpool’s Sander Westerveld denied Hazard a fairytale finish.
Babel’s curling effort in the closing minutes proved decisive, but the event’s real victory came through its purpose — raising funds for the Chelsea Foundation and Chelsea Players’ Trust.
“It was about giving the fans an afternoon they would remember,” said coach Roberto Di Matteo.
