Matheus Cunha risks FA ban for celebration gesture in Arsenal win

Manchester United hero Matheus Cunha could be sidelined by a Football Association ban following an explicit outburst caught on live television during his side’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal.

After scoring the decisive 87th-minute winner, the Brazilian forward celebrated by shouting an audible expletive directly into a Sky Sports camera lens, prompting commentator Peter Drury to tell viewers, “If you heard some bad language in among the celebrations, for that we apologise.”

Under FA regulations concerning the use of “offensive, insulting or abusive language,” the governing body has the authority to take retroactive action for incidents broadcast to a wide audience.

This situation mirrors the 2011 suspension of Wayne Rooney, who was hit with a two-match ban for a similar offense and famously remarked at the time, “I am not the first player to have sworn on TV and I won’t be the last.”
