Mikey Moore has joined Rangers on a season-long loan from Tottenham, adding a promising young talent to the Scottish club’s squad. Having broken records at Tottenham, the winger will now look to make an impact at Ibrox, with the potential to debut in the upcoming match against Motherwell.
Glasgow Rangers have officially announced the acquisition of Mikey Moore from Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan, pending international clearance. The promising young forward is set to become an integral part of manager Russell Martin's squad, marking the ninth addition to the Ibrox side during this transfer window. The club hopes he will bolster their attack and provide a spark of creativity and goals.
Moore, who turns 18 later this month, has been with Spurs since the age of seven, highlighting his long-standing connection with the North London club. His talent was evident early on, as he debuted for Tottenham's Under-21 team at just 15 years old. He then made history by becoming the youngest Tottenham player to feature in a Premier League match when he faced Manchester City at 16 years and 277 days old, the 16th youngest overall.
The young winger's rise continued as he made his European debut in a 3-0 Europa League victory against Qarabag in September 2024. He made several appearances during Tottenham's run to win the trophy. In domestic action, Moore became the youngest Spurs player to start a league game since 1993, lining up against Crystal Palace at 17 years and 77 days old.
Adding to his list of accomplishments, Moore scored his first senior goal in a European match against Elfsborg in January. This made him the youngest-ever English goalscorer in a major European competition, surpassing a 68-year record previously held by Tottenham legend Jimmy Greaves.
After finalizing his move to Rangers, Moore expressed his excitement, stating, "I’m excited to get going. As soon as I heard Rangers were interested and wanted me to come, it was a massive opportunity for me. I’m excited to be here, and hopefully I can show the fans and everyone what I can do." He also revealed his long-standing affinity for the club, adding, "I’ve always loved Rangers as a club. My family have always loved them."
The young forward believes the current environment at Rangers is ideal for his development, noting, "I think with the new boss and the way that we play, it’s a great place to be at the minute. It was a pretty easy decision for me to come here."
Moore also mentioned receiving advice from former Rangers striker Jermain Defoe, who encouraged him to seize the opportunity. "As soon as Rangers came in, I spoke to Jermain Defoe, who had a spell up here, and he absolutely loved it. As soon as I called him, he told me that if I have an opportunity to go to Rangers, then I should take it."
Defoe's positive experiences at Rangers played a significant role in Moore's decision. "It was a massive thing speaking to him because he’s had experience up here, and I’m close to him because he’s a great guy. He only said good things about the club and the people here."
Looking ahead, Moore could potentially make his Rangers debut in the Scottish Premiership opener against Motherwell on Saturday, pending international clearance.
