Mohamed Salah scored twice to send Egypt to the World Cup but caused a stir after shoving a Djibouti defender during the match.
Mohamed Salah was at the centre of attention as Egypt sealed their place at next summer’s World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Djibouti in Casablanca.
The Liverpool forward scored twice but appeared to lose his temper midway through the game when he shoved Djibouti defender Aboubakar Abdi to the ground with both hands after a brief confrontation. Despite the incident, Salah escaped a booking.
Ibrahim Adel opened the scoring for Egypt before Salah added a composed finish at the near post and later produced a stunning lobbed volley for his second. The win ensured Egypt maintained their five-point lead at the top of the group, guaranteeing qualification with one match remaining.
The goals were Salah’s 60th and 61st for his country, extending his record as Egypt’s all-time top scorer in 106 appearances. Egypt’s return to the global stage marks just their second World Cup with Salah after missing out in 2022.
