Morocco made history on Sunday, defeating six-time champions Argentina with a decisive 2-0 victory in Santiago, Chile, to secure their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup title.
The Atlas Cubs’ triumph was spearheaded by striker Yassir Zabiri, who proved the difference-maker by netting a quick first-half brace, scoring in the 12th and 29th minutes against a disorganized Argentine defense.
Despite the South American giants dominating possession with 75%, Morocco remained compact and disciplined, with their backline and goalkeeper Ibrahim Gomis successfully protecting the two-goal lead throughout the match.
Manager Mohamed Ouahbi’s tactical adjustments after the break locked down the midfield, allowing Morocco to see out the historic win.
Moroccan dominance was further highlighted by the individual awards: Othmane Maamma was awarded the prestigious Golden Ball for the tournament’s best player, and Zabiri received the Silver Ball.
