The Confederation of African Football is seeking urgent solutions for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as Morocco reportedly considers withdrawing from hosting the tournament just weeks before kickoff.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is under pressure to clarify the status of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations amid reports that Morocco may withdraw as host.
Scheduled to begin March 17, the tournament’s fate remains uncertain despite previous reassurances.
CAF communications chief Luxolo September noted, “The matter is receiving urgent and high-level attention,” as discussions continue regarding the hosting duties.
South Africa has positioned itself as a potential replacement, with sports minister Gayton McKenzie criticizing the uncertainty.
He stated, “If they are not ready, we want to tell them, we are not a country with no stadiums.”
CAF President Patrice Motsepe previously insisted the dates cannot change due to World Cup qualifying, asserting, “The WAFCON continues, we will make sure it takes place.”
