Preview: Nagelsmann’s Germany eye World Cup 2026 spot vs Luxembourg

Germany, led by Julian Nagelsmann, heads to Luxembourg seeking a decisive win to maintain their top spot in Group A and inch closer to World Cup 2026 qualification, despite defensive concerns and tactical squad omissions.

Germany, currently leading Group A in World Cup 2026 qualifying, travels to the Stade de Luxembourg on Friday to face bottom-placed Luxembourg in a match where coach Julian Nagelsmann will demand professionalism to secure a decisive step toward qualification.

Germany is preparing to face Luxembourg in their penultimate World Cup 2026 qualifying fixture, looking to maintain their top spot in Group A, according to a report from Bulinews.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side currently sits level on nine points with Slovakia but holds the advantage with a superior goal difference of 8:3.

The 25-man German squad features a blend of talent, including veterans like Joshua Kimmich and Florian Wirtz, alongside first-time senior call-ups Assan Ouédraogo and Said El Mala.

RB Leipzig teammate David Raum praised Ouédraogo’s inclusion, stating: “He’s earned it. He’s been too modest about himself – on the pitch, he has an incredible physical presence.”

However, the German defence faces potential disruption as Nico Schlotterbeck remains a major doubt due to a foot injury, with Nagelsmann confirming the situation “doesn’t look ideal.”

Malick Thiaw and Waldemar Anton are ready to partner Jonathan Tah should Schlotterbeck miss the match.

Luxembourg, who have conceded ten goals in four matches, can no longer mathematically reach second place.

Head coach Jeff Strasser is focused on restoring pride and giving a strong account of themselves in the remaining fixtures, likely employing a compact formation to counter Germany’s attack.

Germany previously cruised to a 4-0 victory when the teams met last month.
