Nani criticizes Ruben Amorim’s discipline after Mainoo incident

Former Manchester United star Nani claims the disciplinary issues at the club under Ruben Amorim would never have happened when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge at Old Trafford.

Nani has criticized the current culture at Old Trafford, suggesting that recent disciplinary issues would never have occurred under Sir Alex Ferguson.

His comments follow Ruben Amorim’s decision to sell Alejandro Garnacho and the manager’s public frustration with a “sense of entitlement” among several academy players.

Nani emphasized that Ferguson maintained strict control, stating, “If you were in trouble for any kind of bad behaviour, you would only play again when you changed.”

Reflecting on his own career, Nani recalled how the legendary manager and senior leaders like Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville would immediately address poor conduct.

He argued that modern players must respect the club’s hierarchy, noting that during his era, “Nobody was bigger than the club.

No player, not Ronaldo, not Rooney, not Giggs, nobody.” Nani believes the current squad requires a similar restoration of discipline and rules to reach the standards expected at United.

Despite these internal tensions, Nani expressed confidence in Ruben Amorim’s long-term project and praised recent signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

He noted a visible improvement in the team’s performance this season and backed his compatriot to succeed in the Premier League.

Nani concluded that while building a cohesive squad takes time, Amorim “is the right man for the job” because he possesses the necessary hunger and tactical identity to move the club forward.
