Rasmus Hojlund’s late strike secured Napoli a 2-1 win over Genoa, sending the Serie A champions to the top of the table.
Napoli climbed to the top of Serie A after Rasmus Hojlund’s late winner sealed a 2-1 comeback victory over Genoa at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday.
The Danish forward, fresh from a Champions League brace, struck the decisive goal in the 75th minute, converting a rebound after Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali parried Andre-Frank Anguissa’s shot. The goal was Hojlund’s fourth since joining Napoli from Manchester United.
“I had good energy and was still fresh, so I told the coach to let me play,” Hojlund told DAZN, after revealing that Antonio Conte had considered substituting him before his match-winning moment.
Genoa had taken a first-half lead through teenager Jeff Ekhator before Anguissa equalised in the 57th minute. Napoli now have 15 points from six matches, ahead of Roma on goal difference, and will stay top unless AC Milan beat Juventus later on Sunday.
