Newcastle United officials are taking corrective action and contacting a young supporter’s family after the first team accidentally abandoned her on the pitch before their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.
Newcastle United have pledged to reach out to the family of a young mascot who was left stranded on the pitch at Anfield.
Following the pre-match handshake against Liverpool, Kieran Trippier and his teammates ran off, leaving the girl alone in the center circle.
The club has promised to “put things right” after footage of the confused youngster sparked significant backlash on social media.
The Newcastle United Supporters Trust confirmed the club is addressing the situation. Fan outrage grew after the video contrasted the incident with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who stayed with his mascots.
One fan noted on X, “Trippier had one job, to walk out with the mascot and then make sure she got back off the pitch safely. I hope the club do more than just reach out.”
