Nigeria’s Super Eagles have surged 12 places to 26th in the latest FIFA world rankings, marking their highest global standing in 16 years following a successful bronze-medal campaign at AFCON 2025.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have achieved their highest global standing in sixteen years, climbing twelve places to 26th in the world according to the latest FIFA men’s rankings released on Monday.
This significant surge from their previous 38th position is attributed to the team’s undefeated run in regular time during the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they secured a bronze medal after a semi-final penalty shootout loss to Morocco.
The current ranking marks the national team’s best performance since May 2010, when they were positioned 21st globally, and officially places them as the third-highest ranked nation in Africa.
The update also saw tournament hosts Morocco break into the world’s top ten by moving into eighth place despite their final loss, while the champions, Senegal, ascended seven places to 12th globally.
While the global top seven remained unchanged—with Spain, Argentina, and France maintaining the top three spots—Equatorial Guinea suffered the most significant decline, dropping ten places to 107th.
