Nigeria resolve bonus dispute, players arrive in Marrakech

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have ended their strike threat and moved to Marrakech for their AFCON quarter-final after the federal government resolved foreign exchange issues to disburse outstanding match bonuses.

The Nigerian Super Eagles have arrived in Marrakech for their AFCON 2025 quarter-final against Algeria following a resolution to a tense bonus dispute.

The team had reportedly threatened to boycott training in Fès due to unpaid winning bonuses from the NFF.

However, players and officials proceeded to the match venue yesterday after receiving confirmation that the administrative hurdles delaying their payments had been settled.

Minister of State for Finance, Mrs. Doris Uzoka-Anite, confirmed that the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria streamlined foreign exchange processes to facilitate the payments.

“I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses for our national team at AFCON 2025,” she stated.

The government introduced a fast-track conversion process to ensure the players received their funds in foreign currency as requested.

The Ministry assured the public that all group-stage bonuses are now “in flight” to the players’ accounts.

“The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow,” the Minister added.

With the financial distraction resolved, the Super Eagles have shifted their full focus to Saturday’s high-stakes knockout match against the Algerian “Fennecs.”
