Nigeria have climbed three spots to 38th in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking following recent competitive fixtures.
Nigeria have moved up three positions to 38th in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking released on Wednesday, according to a report from PUNCH.The update follows a month in which the Super Eagles played two competitive matches, recording a 4–1 win over Gabon and a 1–1 draw with DR Congo that ended in a 4–3 penalty loss in the African play-off.
Despite missing out on qualification for the 2026 World Cup, those results helped Nigeria climb the global table. The Super Eagles now hold 1,502.46 points, placing them fifth in Africa behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and Algeria. Morocco remain the continent’s top-ranked side with 1,713.12 points, while Senegal sit 19th globally with 1,648.07 points. Egypt and Algeria follow in 34th and 35th positions with 1,520.68 and 1,516.37 points respectively.
Nigeria’s closest African rivals include Tunisia, who are 40th with 1,497.13 points, and Ivory Coast and DR Congo, on 1,489.59 and 1,442.50 points. Morocco lead the African standings by a margin of 210.66 points over Nigeria.
FIFA explained that changes in the rankings were influenced by results across all confederations and the completion of final qualifiers for the 2026 tournament. With the Africa Cup of Nations approaching in December, Nigeria have an opportunity to build on their improved standing.
